It Ends With Us Lily and Ryle Relationship vs Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni Feud

Share

“It Ends With Us” has made its way to the big screen, and it definitely lives up to the hype!

But, let’s be real, the book still reigns supreme in my heart. I mean, I had my own little mental movie going on with the characters, and when I finally saw them brought to life, it just didn’t hit the same, you know?

Somehow even the relationships seemed different for me. I hope this doesn’t come off the wrong way!! I really adore Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni; they totally nailed their roles!!

That said, there were definitely some differences in Lily and Ryle’s romance from the book.

So, I figured it would be fun to chat about those changes and maybe even touch on some details, like the rumored feud between Blake and Baldoni.

Behind-The-Scenes Brama Between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni

There is possible drama happening between, Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, theygossip.com reports.

Even though the film is doing well, fans started speculating about some underlying tension after the New York City premiere.

The two were notably absent from the red carpet together, and they don’t follow each other on social media.

Baldoni, who not only directed but also stars in the film, has mostly been doing solo interviews to promote it, while Lively has been seen doing interviews alongside other cast members.

The buzz around the film just got a little louder when Jenny Slate, who plays Lively’s best friend in the movie, sidestepped any mention of Baldoni’s directing role during an interview.

Instead, Lively took the opportunity to commend her husband, Ryan Reynolds, for his input on the project, leaving Baldoni out of the spotlight.

On the flip side, Baldoni has been vocal about his admiration for Lively, even suggesting she could take the helm for a sequel.

Despite this underlying tension, co-star Brandon Sklenar chimed in, saying the atmosphere on set was great and complimented Baldoni for managing his various responsibilities throughout the production.

It turns out that Sklenar, Ferrer, Slate, and Alex Neustaedter, who portrays a younger version of Atlas, aren’t actually following Baldoni on Instagram.

Interestingly, Hoover, the one who recommended Baldoni for the movie and is featured on his profile, also isn’t following the director of the film.

Oh, and Baldoni and Blake unfollowed one another on Instagram! Yeah, there is drama happening!!

‘It Ends With Us’ Relationships

Lily finds herself head over heels for the dashing neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid, but as their romance blossoms, she begins to notice some troubling behaviors in him that echo the toxic dynamics of her parents’ abusive relationship.

Just when things get complicated, her first love, Atlas Corrigan, reappears, throwing Ryle into a jealous frenzy.

Now, Lily faces a tough choice about her future and who she truly wants to be with.

Missing Characters and Relationships

Book fans might be kinda bummed to find out that some characters didn’t make the cut in the movie version.

For instance, Devin, who’s Lily’s fabulous gay bestie and stirs up some jealousy for Ryle by acting like her boyfriend, is nowhere to be found.

Plus, they skip over Lucy, Lily’s old roommate, who she ends up hiring for her flower shop. And let’s not forget, Ryle’s parents are MIA in the film too.

Lily and Ryle Just Feel Diffrent

Honestly, I didn’t vibe with the chemistry between the characters in the movie, but I get it—chemistry is subjective, you know?

With a two-hour runtime, they kinda skipped over those cute little moments that made their bond in the book feel real.

I see why that happened, but it made it harder for the audience to grasp what was going on between them.

The film didn’t capture how Ryle went from just wanting a casual thing to actually falling for Lily, and it felt a bit rushed.

In the book, there’s this pivotal scene where Ryle gets a sick job offer far away but chooses to stick around in Boston for Lily, which shows his softer side despite being all about his career.

That moment was huge for their relationship, proving he was willing to make sacrifices for her.

Abusive Relationship

The film really missed the chance to explore Lily’s  Andrew, in a deeper way. He’s a lot more layered than what we see on screen.

After he would hit his wife, he’d always follow it up with “I love you” and “I’m sorry, this won’t happen again,” which is eerily similar to how Ryle behaves after his own abusive moments.

This connection is also why Lily often imagines her father when Ryle hurts her.

Plus, there is a powerful line from the book where Ryle says, “You are my wife. I’m supposed to be the one who protects you from the monsters. I’m not supposed to be one.”

The line did not make it into the movie.  It’s a real bummer because it highlights Ryle’s internal battle to be better, setting him apart from Andrew in Lily’s eyes.

I also wasn’t a fan of how Lily just let Ryle manipulate her right off the bat in the movie after he hurt her.

In the book, she actually stood up for herself at the beginning, especially since she had witnessed her dad mistreating her mom.

I appreciated how the book showed Lily gradually losing her boundaries with Ryle over time, rather than just shrugging it off immediately like she did in the film.
