How to Finally Stop Stalking Your Ex!

Share

The thought of your ex moving on with their life can feel relieving yet hurtful.

They were once part of your life, and it’s difficult to cope without their presence in your life. What are they up to now? – is the common question.

You might resist texting them but can’t control ending up in their profile every minute.

Stalking them won’t help you heal but only leave you disappointed. So, here we have a guide to help you on how to stop stalking your ex.

If you want your ex back that’s a different thing. But if you want to move ahead in life, you need to get them out of your mind.

Here are 9 things that help you stop stalking your ex:

1. Block them from your social media.

The first way to quit the stalking habit is to block your ex from your social media.

Here’s the simple thing: if you want them out of your mind, you need to obstruct all the possible ways they appear in front of your eyes.

Studies suggest blocking your ex on socials cuts down the possibility of reviving the old heartache.

It can tear you apart, it can make you sad, and you might feel your heart shatter a little as you press that button, but it will save you from stalking your ex.

The pain of the process will be worth it.

Deleting them from your Instagram and other social media apps gives you the queue to invest your focus somewhere else be it your hobbies, friends, and family.

2. Remember why you broke up.

Sometimes, blocking doesn’t suffice. You might block them now unblock them the next moment and start stalking them again.

And I’m not coming from a third-perspective place on this one.

Try remembering what made you part ways or how they treated you. The bad memories might trigger your self-respect to not go back to check your profile.

I don’t intend any shaming here. My only point is if you try recollecting the reason for your breakup or the possible insults you might have faced, it will intensify your disappointment in them.

Then, you’re likely to pause, or even entirely stop, from stalking them.

3. Write in a piece of paper: I’LL NOT STALK HIM/HER!

Write-Affirmations

Constantly staring at their profile might ignite a confusion in your mind: should you text your ex or not?

You should give affirmations a try.

Affirmations have wonderful power to help you reach your goals. If you’re unable to stop stalking them by any means, consider trying this one.

Take a piece of paper and write: I’LL NOT STALK HIM/HER. If you use a sticky note and place it where you can see it as a reminder, even better.

Keeping it right in front of your eyes will not let you forget what you have promised to yourself.

4. STOP talking to their friends.

If you’re in touch with their friends, you’ll likely receive updates from them about your ex.

That might urge you to stalk them, what posts they are sharing, what they are replying to in the comments, and so on.

It’s better to stop talking to their friends, at least for a while. Yes, it might sound rude but it’s your benefit that you should be concerned about at this moment.

Here’s the suggestion: If you’re battling hard to stop loving them, you can’t let the stalking habit come your way.

Shut down the possible way that reminds you of them. If you wish to be in touch, set boundaries and tell clearly not to update you on anything about your ex.

5. Invest your time and energy in something productive.

The thought of whether your ex misses you or has moved on can’t let you be at peace. You keep searching their profile for a clue.

With the constant battle going inside your mind between stalking their profile and not doing so, it’s best to shift your focus to something you like doing.

You can take up an internship, engage yourself in a productive activity, or invest in anything that keeps you busy.

By the end of the day, you’ll have messy hair and be too tired to spend your energy online stalking your ex.

This will, without a doubt, give you less room to waste time stalking your ex.

6. Spend more time with friends or family.

If you have a lovely family or amazing friends, you’re blessed.

Instead of stalking your ex, try spending more time with your family or hatch a plan to hang out with your friends.

A quality time with your loved ones will let you forget everything that’s troubling you (at least for the moment).

Spending time with your close ones will make you feel belong. You’ll feel important.

That feeling will likely restrict you from checking up on someone’s profile who caused you hurt.

7. Tell your therapist how you’re feeling.

Your therapist might not directly be able to solve your issues, but they can be a tremendously helpful guide in navigating them.

In this case, talk to your therapist about this.

A listening ear and a professional guiding mind can help you navigate this situation a lot better.

On the other hand, it can help you feel understood and even understand what’s leading you to this behavior.

8. Think about their wellbeing.

If you’re stalking them in person, you must think about their well-being.

You might still be in love with them or just have a great sense of care for them. If you do, you need to stop stalking them.

Think of how your behavior affects them and their emotional and psychological health.

Dealing with a stalker —without intending to make you feel bad about yourself here— is not easy to handle, be it emotionally or psychologically.

So, before you make the next move, think about them and how distracting, hurtful, or even disturbing your actions can be for your ex.

9. Work on improving your emotional regulation.

If you keep stalking them, you’re likely to let them and their social media activity hamper your mental health.

Take a deep breath and read the possible ways to help you stop stalking them.

Firstly, work on your emotional regulation. Try understanding yourself and your ways of coping with difficult or tempting situations.

Try analyzing your behavioral patterns and how you deal with or handle your emotions. Having that in mind, educate yourself on the way.

Read and learn what practices are best for you to maintain self-control and healthy emotional responses.

Wrapping Up

With that, we conclude our discussion on the possible ways you can stop stalking your ex.

I know it’s difficult at first, but, trust me, the universe surely has something better planned up for you.

It’s healing time dear reader.

Stop taking any action that digs up old wounds. You have more work to do, something/someone more worthy needs your effort and time.

Don’t waste the precious ‘now’ holding onto a hurtful ‘yesterday’.
