How it all began between Carlo and Sarah
In 2009 Sarah visited her grandparents for the first time in Italy, where she met Carlo’s whole family including his brothers but not him.
Then in 2015 as a graduation gift, Sarah got to spend the summer at her grandparents where she crossed paths with for the first time with Carlo.
It all started with an awkward meeting at the beach as he was working as a lifeguard then.
Sarah made the first move by hitting him with a ‘Hi’ and he did reply but that was it Carlo started having a conversation with Sarah’s grandmother as he knew her.
The thing is Carlo liked Sarah but he did not know any English, just some simple phrases, so the language became a small barrier between the two.
Sarah and Carlo’s love started at the beach
After Sarah left, Carlo started practicing his English and decided to message her via Facebook but got ghosted for a few months as Sarah was dating someone back then.
Spending those three years away from one another made them realize their feelings. They could not stop thinking and talking about one another. This just changed my mind about it being impossible!!
It was 2018 when Sarah and her whole family came back to Italy once again and it was another first encounter for the two.
Sarah was under the umbrella when Carlo decided to make the first move on her, mind you he still did not know English but tried to make it work.
So Sarah her dad and Carlo would converse with one another and Sarah’s dad would play the translator.
That summer these two spent a lot of time talking and just connected on deeper levels.
Carlo used that summer to his advantage by asking her out almost every night and taking her to the locals and secret places in Calabria.
The thing is Sarah would turn him down always even when he suggested she bring her sibling along.
She was not playing hard to get, but she did not want to disrespect her relationship as she was dating someone at that time.
Just like that vacation was over and it was time for Sarah to go back to the US, as they were saying goodbye they hugged and there were butterflies everywhere.
That’s where they felt that they were one another’s soulmates.
He could barely string a sentence in English, yet he managed to charm Sarah into a date in the summer of 2019. From then on, they were practically joined at the hip for the entire season.
Carlo and Sarah have been married for two years
Sarah headed back to the U.S., only to have Carlo pop up for a surprise month-long visit in the fall.
Their long-distance love was supposed to catch a break when she planned to return to Italy in May 2020, but thanks to travel restrictions from the pandemic, that idea went up in smoke.
They eventually reunited in Ireland during the summer of 2020, one of the few places where both Americans and Italians could travel. And that’s where Carlo got down on one knee and proposed.
Now they had their first wedding in Italy in 2022 without Sarah’s family and friends attending due to them not being able to travel, but they did hold a second ceremony when they went back to the US.
Carlo was the one who decided to sacrifice his life in Italy by showing everyone that women are not the only ones who are required to move for their spouse.
Sarah cheated one time on Carlos by watching an episode of their show after he fell asleep, for the other part they seem to be living happily ever after.
