Are Shawn Mendes’s New Songs About Camila Cabello? A Deep Dive into His Lyrics

Share

They have written countless songs about one another, however this time it feels different!!

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello were about to be parents? At least that is what Shawn’s new song “Why Why Why’ implies, theygossip.com reports.

He sings something along the lines of “I thought I was about to be a father/ Shook me to the core, I’m still a kid (Ooh)/ Sometimes, I still cry out for my mother/ Why, why, why? Why, why, why?”

This song feels like a song that was made 100% about Camila and it comes just weeks after they were spotted hanging out in Miami, catching the Copa America game between Colombia and Argentina. Shwamilla is that you??

Shawn Medes’s upcoming fifth album ‘Shawn’ is set to be released on October 18, 2024, and it features 12 tracks two of which have been released.

And with ‘Why Why Why’ and ‘Isn’t That Enough’ released it seems like he’s channeling his heartbreak into some fire songs.

To better understand where I am coming from I will break down each lyric and all the reasons why the songs feel like they are about Cabello. They sure are heartbreak songs!!

Analyzing ‘Why Why Why’

Shawn Mendes’s song lyrics dive into some serious self-reflection and emotional chaos.

The constant questioning of “Why, why, why?” hints at a battle with lingering feelings, likely tied to a previous relationship, probably the one he had with Cabello.

Verse 1:

Mendes flips open his journal, showing that he’s deep in thought about his feelings, which have stayed the same even as time goes by.

The reference to “visions of her naked in my head” points to lingering memories of intimacy, but the line “I went off and chose myself instead” suggests a decision to prioritize self-growth or self-care over the relationship.

Chorus:

Saying “I don’t know why” over and over shows that he’s really confused and feels a bit lost when it comes to figuring out his feelings or choices.

Verse 2:

Once he got off the stage, he felt a mix of emptiness and being totally overwhelmed ( “All the lights were fuckin’ with my head”).

Now he is diving back into writing songs and singing, which seems to be his way of dealing with it all.

Bridge:

The lines “I thought I was about to be a father” and “Shook me to the core, I’m still a kid” really highlight a sense of fear and feeling unready for big life changes, which might connect to his issues in relationships.

Plus, when he says, “Sometimes, I still cry out for my mother,” it really emphasizes his need for comfort and support, showing just how vulnerable he feels.

What Connections Has The Song To Camila Cabello

Considering how public their relationship was, these lyrics show how he was feeling after his breakup.

The mix of confusion, regret, and self-reflection really captures what many go through after a big breakup.

When he talks about “choosing myself instead,” it seems like he’s come to terms with the need to prioritize his own happiness, even if it means letting go of someone he loved a lot.

Analyzing “Isn’t That Enough”

Mendes’s song lyrics are thoughtful and express a strong emotional experience! The song ‘Isn’t That Enough’ creates a touching mood about the loss of love and personal development.

Camila and Shawn

Verse 1:

The verse starts with images of warmth and freedom “Sweet is the sun,” “Warm is the rain,” “Free is the day”—suggesting a time of joy or calm. Yet, this perfect picture clashes with the emotional chaos shown in the pre-chorus.

During this verse, Shawn mentions June in it, and just a heads up Camila has a song titled ‘June Floom’ which is totally about Mendes!!

Pre-Chorus:

The phrase “My hands still shakin’ my mind’s still racing, my heart’s still brakin’ in two” shows that the singer is still in pain and is struggling.

The repeated mention of physical and emotional issues highlights how these feelings are always present and overwhelming.

The line “My friends stay patient” suggests that his friends understand what he is going through and are there for him.

Meanwhile, “My mother still calls for the news” shows that his mother is worried and keeps in touch, reflecting a solid support network.

Chorus:

There is this one question that keeps on being repeated “Isn’t that enough” and it just shows how the singer wants to have answers and be in peace.

It also shows that despite the love he is getting including the support, he still feels that there is no one who could mend his heart.

Verse 2:

“Gone are the birds, close are the tears” indicates a shift from a time of joy (birds symbolizing freedom or happiness) to a more sorrowful state.

The line “A house full of love, space for your fears” might represent a relationship or home where love and fears coexist, hinting at the complexity of intimate relationships.
